AEMASE, the intercontinental initiative of science academies in the geographical African-Mediterranean-European area on “African-European-Mediterranean Academies for Science Education”, held its Second Conference in Dakar, Senegal on 12-13 October 2015. The Conference was organised with courtesy of the Academie Nationale des Sciences et Techniques du Sénégal (ANSTS), and supported by IAP - the gobal network of science academies.

The Conference focussed on the role of Science Education in Development, looked at various Science Education Programmes and national as well as international projects and programmes in Science Education, including methods, materials and resources for teacher training, or research into Science Education and assessment methods.

Participants included delegates of science academies from the African-Mediterranean-European area, representatives of the Ministries of education, experts in SE and teacher professional development, as well as invited observers from other regions in the world. Delegates of other European and African countries involved in current or future SE pilot projects also participated. As with the AEMASE I Conference 2014 each country presented its latest science education experiences and resources, explained the issues it sees as critical, and took note of the best-practice ideas collected from the sharing with other countries.

Professor Mostapha Bousmina, President of NASAC, also represented the IAP Partnership at the Conference.

The conference ended with the release of the Dakar Declaration.
